Creately: Online Diagrams and Flowcharts
Need to create a flowchart, process diagram, wireframe, or org chart? Creately is an online diagramming tool that makes it straightforward — even if you've never created a diagram before.
What It Does
Creately's interface is built around a drag-and-drop canvas. You choose from an extensive library of shapes, symbols, and templates — flowchart elements, org chart shapes, SWOT templates, wireframe components, and more — and drag them onto the canvas. Connecting objects is as simple as clicking on one and connecting it to another; Creately draws the lines.
Collaboration Built In
One of Creately's strongest features is collaboration. You can share a diagram with reviewers via email or a view link, allowing them to see and comment on your work without needing their own account. For team-based projects or client work, this makes feedback loops much faster.
Sharing and Publishing
When a diagram is complete, you can publish it and share it on social media or embed it on your website. Diagrams can also be exported in various formats for use in presentations or documents.
How It's Evolved
Since its early days as a simple diagramming tool, Creately has expanded into a full visual workspace that includes project management features, database views, and integrations with tools like Google Workspace and Jira. The free tier is more limited now than it once was (three workspaces), but the paid plans are reasonable for regular use.
Alternatives Worth Knowing
If Creately doesn't feel right, draw.io (now diagrams.net) is a completely free, browser-based alternative with similar capabilities. FigJam is excellent for collaborative whiteboarding and simple diagramming. Miro is the most powerful option for complex visual collaboration.
For most creative solopreneurs who occasionally need a clean diagram or flowchart, Creately or draw.io will handle the job well.
